Mutilating, contagious leprosy and the resulting leper colonies have haunted us for hundreds of years, especially in Asia, Africa and Latin America. While places like this “Social Reclassification Village” still exist, medical advances are supressing and stopping the spread of the disease. In the village of of Djibelor in southern Senegal, the residents with leprosy know they can’t reverse the course of their illness, but they can hope for better lives for their kids.
