Strangely, Niger is a country where men are veiled and women are not. My kneejerk first reaction was that the chèche was oppressive — au contraire, I came to find wearing one incredibly liberating from the blistering sun (not to mention the ever-present camera that was unforgiving after 10 days in the sweaty (showerless) desert).
