A Good Bitch with the NY Times
Tue, September 05, 2006
So nice to see the fine ladies of Bitch Magazine getting some major ink on their 10th anniversary for their new anthology, BITCHfest, including a recent write up in the New York Times Magazine. Bitch does a major service in for us by examining the media tidal wave with a feminist lens, and then giving us the straight estro-scoop—all the while never losing their sense of humor or apologizing for being gluttons for pop culture. I was particularly pleased to see Bitch co-founder Andi Zeisler not miss a beat in quashing reporter Deborah Solomon’s trotting out of the ‘post-feminist’ myth.
Just because the syntax has changed and Judy Chicago and consciousness raising groups have been replaced by blogs and Ladyfests, doesn’t mean it’s not going on, Deborah. For a survey, check out the BITCHfest tour to see what a Bitch-era feminist looks like.

Did you see this past Sunday’s Q&A with Gloria Steinem in the Times Magazine? She talked about consciousness-raising groups, book groups, and the ongoing importance for a strong community—all of which is informing her decision to start a new radio network. BitchRadio, anyone?
